Did I just sit down? Whew, I think I actually did! It feels good to actually come back and post to His Middle Name all of the happenings in the life of this busy momma, even if it's just to take a look back at the past month. The start of Fall has brought so much abundance - some amazingly good and some a challenge to handle, but welcome nonetheless because they are propelling us forward as a family; motivating me into a new direction. However, as busy and scatterbrained as I get sometimes, there is always a great love and responsibility I feel towards His Middle Name. Not to mention, this little homespun community continues to grow and actually reached over 1,000 fans on the Facebook fan page! So I hope I haven't missed my opportunity to share with the His Middle Name community all of the celebrations and big things that have come to pass in the last few weeks. ![]() On October 3rd, my son turned three years old. Just writing that makes my eyes well up with tears. I just don't know where the time has gone! It is a surreal realization; how he has grown from this tiny two pound preemie into this bright, articulate and imaginitive little boy. This birthday he wanted a football birthday party, and anyone who knows us Lubins knows we only support two football teams in this house: the Philadelphia Eagles (I married into that one) and the Arkansas Razorbacks (my Daddy's alma mater). Red is Sutton's favorite color too, so it didn't take long to figure out that an Arkansas Razorback theme birthday party was the way to go! Putting together my son's birthday parties are always a blast, but this one seemed even more fun because the football season was so anticipated this year and the Indian Summer welcomed us with great weather. My mother in law and I crafted and made all of the decorations and food, which reminded me of the hand-crafted birthdays I grew up with as a child. We had a pretty small party this year with only family and a few close friends, but it was more intimate and contained that way - especially since the kids played football games outside. We ate southern foods that we NEVER indulge in like frito chili pie, barbequed pork sandwiches and rootbeer floats and then celebrated with red butter cream cupcakes. Delish! But the most fun part of the party was just seeing my son so happy and healthy - running, laughing, smiling and enjoying his special day. What's amazing is he doesn't even know the extent of how blessed he is to have life and be living it so richly. But how could he ... he's only a three year old little boy. Now for some more fun news! I was interviewed a few weeks ago by one of my favorite websites, the Bump, for a great piece they were doing on mothers who have risked their lives to have a baby. For me personally, being interviewed by the Bump was the equivalent of being starstruck! I was overwhelmed by the fact that such a heralded website and magazine would want to share my story. The Bump, a sister site of the Knot and the Nest (one of my very faves), is the go to website and community page for so many parents and parents to be. Their expansive online community includes personal profiles and local resources as well as user generated information regarding fertility, pregnancy, birth and babies with stage-by-stage advice and tons of interactive tools. It's a "one stop shop" for any momma or momma to be, and I couldn't be more proud of sharing my story in the hopes that it helps another woman or rings true with another parent. I would especially like to thank Elena Mauer, Deputy Editor at the Bump, for taking her time to get to know me and choosing the His Middle Name story to be apart of their feature. If you are interested, you can read the piece here.
