A Clean Bill of Health

Back in April I visited my OBGYN for my regularly scheduled health check-up. I go once a year, as most women do, but this year would be different because instead of seeing my oncologist I got to see my gynecologist (who I actually hadn't seen since 2011). It was a reunion of sorts, and it was good for me to discuss my hysterectomy and my health in general. Oddly enough, even though I have had a hysterectomy, the process is somewhat the same. Although a bit uncomfortable due to some scarring, I am as healthy as ever and won't have to see my OBGYN again until the next year and then once every three years after that! Amen! Having some time to focus on me and my personal health and then hearing those words of good health and affirmation really struck me.

Reflecting on that appointment this morning made me realize that I wanted others to feel that good about themselves as well; to feel confident in their health and their options. It's also been a few months since I posted any education opportunities specifically for women, so I thought that this would be a great time to encourage all of my His Middle Name sisters to do that for themselves!  I know, I know - Summer is the time for hitting the pool and setting your piggies free on the beach, but it's also that time of year when there tends to be a lull in all that frenzied activity the rest of the year holds for us. I also know too many women who are silently suffering from heavy periods, endometriosis, fibroid tumors and infertility.

This month, His Middle Name wants you to enjoy being a woman and encourage you to see your doctor if you have any health concerns. Because fibroids affect as many as 60% of all women, I've posted a couple of education initiatives below.  If you live near LA or DC - you're in luck. The best part? They're FREE!
