So many followers of His Middle Name have asked me for Sutton updates, so here is what you've been waiting for! This weekend was Sutton's first trip to the beach, and it truly was a magical weekend. The weather was perfect: the sun was shining bright, the air was salty and smelled of coconut oil and Sutton seemed to enjoy all the attention he garnered for his sweet smile and Phillies hat (gotta represent)! It was wonderful to stroll along the boardwalk and eat cotton candy and drink fresh made lemonade while our son curiously took in all the sights and sounds.
Being raised in South Florida, the beach was my playground. It was this intoxicating, wondrous place where I could imagine and discover and play. My parents took us all the time - almost every weekend. I remember playing in the surf and mangrove trees from early morning until the sun was setting, almost drunk on ocean water. There is something very pure and humbling about the ocean, and I wanted to share that with my son. It was one of the most beautiful weekends our little family has had together, and I'm sure it's the first of many that the summer has in store for us. I wanted to pass something onto my son, and without even being aware of it, a Kresse tradition has now become a Lubin tradition. I couldn't be happier.

Free Webinar!

With Memorial Day weekend upon us, and remembrance and reconciliation on my mind, I want to give back and kick the summer off right! I am so excited to share all of the education initiatives I have found and will continue to post them throughout the summer. Suffering from another bout of hemorrhagic bleeding this week, I believe learning about Uterine Fibroid Tumors and understanding the effects they have on your health and pregnancy is key to empowering women, and hopefully, help point those suffering in the right direction regarding treatment options. The Fibroid Treatment Collective (http://www.fibroids.com/) is a medical group of fibroid experts and gynecologists that are dedicated to curing fibroid tumors with minimally invasive therapy. Similar to Gynecologic Oncology, each patient is matched with a specialist, and your physician and medical team handles your treatment from start to finish. This unique "one team, one patient" approach offers more consistent, comprehensive care for fibroid patients. The Fibroid Treatment Collective also offers constant education through their website, blog, newsletter, seminars and webinars. The best part? It's free! Their next event will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 7 p.m. Pacific Time (San Francisco, GMT-07:00), and you don't even have to leave the comfort of your home. You can hang out in your pjs and attend a live webinar that will be offered to women world wide! It will last about 45 minutes and will provide essential information on fibroids and treatment options. To register, please click the link below:

The Giving Tree

My son loves being read to, and one of his favorite books is "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. Funny how life is circular in many ways, but "The Giving Tree" was one of my very favorite books when I was young too. I want my son to love and appreciate nature and what it can give to you, how it can heal you in so many ways. But I want him to be out in it, not just read about it in a book. I knew last Friday was looking like one of the only nice days we were going to have all week, so we packed up the car with goodies, snacks and a camera without a clue where we were going. We ended up two counties away in one of the most stunning parks I have ever seen. I cannot explain what a beautiful and special day it ended up being, and I haven't breathed that deeply in a long time. The air was crisp and cool, and there was a sea of green, long grass that waved every time the wind blew, as if to welcome in the summer. We had a picnic under a tree and marveled at the fact that we were the only people around. It was beautiful to see Sutton connect with nature, and I felt so blessed to have that moment with my little family.
One of my favorite lines in "The Giving Tree" is towards the end of the story, when the boy is all grown up. The boy says to the tree, "I do not need much now, just a quiet place to sit and rest." Yes, indeed. A quiet place to sit and rest.

Non for Profits: Changing the Game

Non for profits rock. I happen to work for a non for profit in the field of Gynecologic Oncology, and it wouldn't be too far fetched to say that community focused health care is truly important to me. I believe it takes healthcare to a whole new level, and it's changing the game. By combining the practice of medicine with clinical and scientific research, and offering health care services that educate and serve the the community, non for profits really set the standard for high-quality, compassionate care.
As part of National Women's Health Week, I wanted to post another education initiative offered in Florida - my home state! Morton Plant Mease Health Care (http://www.mpmhealth.com/) is a nationally pre-eminent health care system offering innovative, accessible, and quality health care to it's community and beyond. Morton Plant Mease has facilities that not only include hospitals, but also outpatient and surgical centers, immediate care centers, rehabilitation centers, family health centers and wellness centers in the Tampa Bay area. The following is information on their next education event, which is free and open to the public:

  • "Uterine Fibroids: Everything A Woman Should Know" – An informative seminar featuring an expert panel of physicians that will discuss causes, symptoms and treatment options (both medicinal and surgical) of uterine fibroids. Scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Safety Harbor Public Library in Safety Harbor, FL, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Interested individuals should register in advance to reserve a seat. To register, please call (727) 953-6830.
